Programs


Go Orange for Hunger

Take action during September. Play a role in ending hunger by donating food items to help create care baskets for community members in need. Please include items that are non-perishable, unopened, undamaged, non-expired, and have a long shelf life.
 

Each bag will include one item from each category:
Canned meats & proteins (peanut butter, tuna, chicken)
Canned fruits (peaches, pears, applesauce)
Canned vegetables (green beans, corn, peas, potatoes)
Canned stews & soups (chili, beef stew, ravioli)
Grains (hot & cold cereal, oatmeal, rice)
Boxed pasta (mac 'n cheese, spaghetti, raman noodles, dried beans)
Sauces (pasta sauces)
 
Help us reach our goal to make 200 care bags!
 
All of the items can be dropped off at one of the following locations by September 26, 2014:
  • Browning Masonic Retirement Community (8883 Browning Drive, Waterville)
  • Asian Resource Center (7036 Mourning Dove Ct., Toledo)
  • Sterling House of Bowling Green/Clare Bridge Place (121 N. Wintergarden, BG)
  • Otterbein Portage Valley (20311 Pemberville Rd., Pemberville)
  • Abundant Life #1 & #2 (100 Trinity Court, Perrysburg)
  • All Senior Centers in Wood County (call 419-353-5661 for locations)
Wood County Throwdown
Saturday, October 11, doors open at 11 a.m.
Penta Career Center, 9301 Buck Rd., Perrysburg
Six chefs from area senior center, assisting living facilities, retirement communities and long-term care facilities will challenge each other to a 3-course food throwdown.
This event will feature:
  • Entertainment, sampling of a variety of courses from local chefs
  • Critique all food samples by voting on your favorite appetizers/starters served at 11:30 a.m., main course served at 12:30 p.m. and dessert served at 1:30 p.m.
  • Vote to crown the People's Choice Award for Appetizers/Starters, the main course and dessert. Celebrity judges will vote to announce the "Wood County Throwdown Champion."
Tickets are $5 per person and are available at all Senior Centers.

Class: AARP Driver Safety
Thursday, November 6 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Wood County Senior Center, 305 N. Main St., BG
Led by certified AARP Instructor, Brad Biller.
This course is designed to refresh your memory and fine tune your response to everyday driving.
Participation in this type of program may reduce your insurance costs, please refer to your insurance agent for clarification.
Course fees are $14 for non-AARP members and $12 for AARP members.
